What is AISI 4130 Alloy Steel?
AISI 4130 is a low-alloy steel containing chromium and molybdenum, which contribute to its excellent strength, toughness, and hardenability. While not as corrosion-resistant as stainless steel, it offers an outstanding balance of weldability, machinability, and mechanical performance.

Technical Characteristics
Machinability & Fabrication
AISI 4130 is easily machined in the annealed condition and becomes more challenging as hardness increases. It is readily welded by all common methods and can be cold- or hot-worked using conventional practices.
– Hot Working Range: 816–1093 °C (1,500–2,200 °F)
– Tempering Range: 399–566 °C (750–1,050 °F), depending on desired strength
Corrosion Resistance
While AISI 4130 provides moderate resistance to atmospheric corrosion, protective coatings or cathodic protection are recommended for harsh environments or subsea applications.
